Projects: The Source; Glasgow Venue Reports

The Source is an audience profiling project of national significance, drawing in audience profiling, training needs analysis and box office benchmarking for a wide range of performing arts venues throughout Scotland. Undertaken by Culture Sparks in partnership with The Audience Business on behalf of the Federation of Scottish Theatre, with funding from Creative Scotland and input from over 40 venues, it is the most comprehensive resource of its kind.

The research phase of The Source project ran over five years and was completed in 2011.

In June, we presented initial findings at a series of ‘ReSourceful’ seminars, where we gathered early feedback and responses from the sector before working with partners The Audience Business and MyCake to develop and deliver a series of benchmarking workshops that enabled organisations to measure their performance against that of their peers. The Source findings have already been used to inform Creative Scotland’s Theatre Review, and a full report on the project is scheduled for publication in the coming reporting period.

In order to ensure that members continue to benefit from the insights that The Source research provided, every six months Culture Sparks continues to produce a set of Venue Reports for member organisations in Glasgow, enabling them to benchmark their attendance figures against local and regional averages and against their own past performance.
